I will treat with great care all the information you share with me. I consider this to be the essence of therapy. I am bound by the rules of my profession, state laws and personal values to respect and uphold this obligation of privacy. There are however a few situations in which confidentiality is not protected:
If you make a serious threat to harm yourself or another person, the law requires me to try to protect you and/or that other person. This usually means telling others about the threat in order to prevent the harm.
In certain legal proceedings, I may be ordered by a judge to release my records or make statements about your treatment. If you are suing someone or being sued, in a custody proceeding, being charged with a crime, or involved in other legal proceedings, please consult your lawyer.
If I believe, or have reason to believe, a child has been or will be abused or neglected; I am legally required to report this to specific authorities.
